Breast Care Program

Breast Cancer

The UVA Breast Care Program offers advanced diagnostic and screening options for women and men, and personalized care and support for patients who need breast cancer treatment. Whether you are newly diagnosed, concerned about symptoms or have a family history of cancer, the breast care team at UVA is here to help.

High-Risk Breast & Ovarian Cancer Program

  • UVA has the region’s only program for women who may be at high-risk for breast and ovarian cancers. Take a risk assessment online or learn more about screening mammograms and diagnostic imaging provided through the UVA Breast Care Program and High-Risk Breast and Ovarian Cancer Program. During your first visit, our team will evaluate you and determine the appropriate next steps for you, which could include a screening or diagnostic mammogram, genetic testing and more.

World-Class Breast Care

Breast Cancer Screening & Treatment

Our radiologists are dedicated breast experts. They focus solely on breast imaging using techniques such as mammograms (screening and diagnostic), 3D mammograms (tomosynthesis), breast ultrasound and breast MRI. If breast cancer is suspected or diagnosed through screening, you’ll get an appointment with a breast surgeon in less than one week. The breast care team includes surgeons, medical oncologists, breast radiologists, social workers and other experts. At the forefront of their efforts is the patient.

We offer extraordinary support services for breast cancer patients, including dedicated licensed clinical social workers to meet with you and your caregivers, nutritionists, Flourisha boutique that offers stylish yet functional items for women going through breast cancer treatment and more.

Breast Cancer Research

Breakthroughs in Treatment

UVA Cancer Center is at the forefront of the field in delivering novel breast cancer treatments and therapies. Within one month, two brand new treatments for breast cancer were tested with successful results; focused ultrasound ablation to destroy breast tumors and image-guided, high-dose targeted radiation known as IORT, which delivers a predetermined dose of radiation directly to the tumor site, protecting surrounding tissues.

Clinical Trials

  • Although we offer the opportunity for qualified patients to join clinical trials that could lead to new treatment options, we certainly respect the decision not to participate. However, joining clinical trials when you have the opportunity to do so could save your life and the lives of many others with breast cancer.
