Counseling Services and Support Groups
Counseling for Patients & Caregivers
For those coping with cancer we provide you with support through our counseling program and offer services that help you navigate the health care system.
Psychologists & Social Workers
Psychologists and licensed clinical social workers allow you to talk confidentially about your fears and experience with cancer, and can connect you with community resources to help you deal with your situation. Ask a doctor or nurse for a referral to one of UVA Cancer Center's psychologists or social workers.
A patient navigator meets with newly diagnosed patients to discuss your needs and provide you with access to financial information, support groups, educational programs, nutrition, counseling and other resources.
You can participate in one of our support groups, which are free for patients and families.
Head and Neck Cancer Support Group
Second Wind Support Group includes present and former head and neck cancer patients and families, plus professionals from the clinic. Join us to share ideas, support, questions and experiences. For 20 years, group members have benefited from shared knowledge, compassion and humor. Schedule upcoming appointments on group meeting days for added convenience. Download a flyer here (PDF).
